What Causes Them?

Headaches are defined as any pain on the head and/or upper neck. There is no one location for them. It can be as the base of the skull, at one or both temples, or over the entire head. It can come from pressure from infections or reactions. Constriction of the blood vessels can bring you down in pain.

Headaches come in all kinds from minor ones that just irritate to the severe migraines. Some can bring you to tears.

Many things can cause them.

  • Stress - This little culprit can cause most of our health problems.
  • Allergic reactions - Someone's perfume or other similar odors can trigger a headache.
  • Sinus pressure - Sinus pressure can bring you down.
  • Injury - Any injury to the head can cause headaches.
  • Loud noises - any loud noises can contribute to headaches
  • Other health issues - constipation, side effects of medications, and others can bring on headaches. If these persist, seek medical attention.
  • Lack of sleep - I always get headaches if I'm missing sleep.

The worst ones I've had came from sinus pressure and the side effects of a spinal tap. I've found that personally Excedrin, hot shower, and a massage really work to relieve it.

How to Get Rid of Them?

What causes them is good to know, but to be honest I want to know how to get rid of it. I've found that different methods have to be used depending on the type of headache and the severity. At times, you need to try one at a time and see which one works for that particular headache.

  • Hot shower - take a hot shower and let the water hit the back of your neck or area where the headache is concentrated
  • Cold pack -sounds counter-productive but it does work.
  • Rub your hand - if you deep massage the fleshy part between your thumb and finger it will begin to ease
  • Massage - the ultimate in relaxation and headache ease
  • Bath - helps relax you and gives the muscles a chance to relax in the neck.
  • Excedrin - works everytime for relief in 15 minutes.

I have also heard that drinking a large glass of room temperature water gets rid of headaches too.
