My father was a Kentucky Wildcats fan.  He bled blue.  When the wonderful technology of recording the TV shows came out he used it to his advantage.  If there was even a chance that he might miss the game, he taped it.  He watched it over and over and over.  In fact one time, I was sitting with him as he watched them one game for the seventh time.  When one of the players missed his shot, I just had to say, "You would think that by now he would know that he was going to miss it."  That didn't go over too well.

The video game industry has really expanded into the sports arena.  You can play a full season of your favorite sport in the virtual world, or you can pretend to be part of the sport through the interactive sports games such as the Wii can provide.

I don't know many sports enthusiasts that do not love to play their sports in video games.  They can play them over and over again and even against each other.  Bring out the kid in them (if it is not already there.)
